Rex the Runt complete
This extremely funny plasticine character television series is currently being shown in the early hours of the morning in the UK, unfortunately, not all of series two is being shown here. Series one is obtainable in the UK at a reasonable price but not both series one and two so when I discovered both series one and two on Ebay for a bargain basement price I had no hesitation whatsoever in making probably one of the most important purchases in my life because Rex the Runt is something you feel compelled to watch over and over again because it is so funny.

Interesting, compelling, written in a plain and understandable style and language.
A compelling true story of June and Jennifer Gibbons, twin girls whose identities are tragically fused. The twins are alienated from their peers by a shared speech impediment, chronic shyness and a painful awareness of their 'otherness'. (They are bullied relentlessly for being the only black children in the predominantly white area.) Against this backdrop, the girls take refuge in a pact of silence towards the outside world, and a shared secret 'language' of which few have any understanding. After leaving school with scant qualifications, June and Jennifer vow to become accomplished writers, spending hours in their bedroom, writing poems, diaries and novels. They even plough their Social Security benefits together to pay for June's book 'Coca Cola Addict' to be published. After a while, however, they become involved with some American boys who introduce them to a world of drink, drugs and sex in a summer which June later went on to describe as 'the best of our lives'. When the boys go back to USA, J and J turn to petty crime, and later, arson. Both are sent to Broadmoor Hospital. It is well written and interesting, but I have 2 criticisms. There is a distinct lack of necessary scholarly citations. Also, the book ends very abruptly, as if the writer had a very strict deadline.
