Beautiful and touching second album
I discovered Karine Polwart's celtic folk recently and was blown away by her first album, Faultlines. Her voice is vaguely reminiscent of KT Tunstall's, her lyrics are poignant, powerful and meaningful and the melodies haunting. This follow up album is lovely. Not, in my opinion as strong as her first album. But you will still find much of her magic in evidence. For me the best track is "Baleerie Baloo", an extraordinary song which sends shivers down your spine. Karine is a beautiful vocalist and this is not a run-of-the-mill folk album. Like Nick Drake, she has a uniqueness which can captivate and hold you in a moment. Her lyrics are subtle and divine and with each listening you will find more and more in them. Try this album....and discover the magic for yourself

Excellent debut album!
This superb singer songwriter is still in his teens, but already writing some astonishingly beautiful and quite mature songs! If this is what he produces on a first album then when he 'matures' he will shake the world! If you haven't already discovered him, and like James Morrison, Scott Matthews, Stephen Fretwell, or any of the recent spate of guitar based/acoustic artists, then this is for you. I love this album!

Scott Matthews meets Jack Johnson and then some!
I heard the opening track, September, on the radio and loved it immediately - not something I do often! The lyrics are gorgeous and his voice winds through the melody like smoke. His voice is reminiscent of Jack Johnson, Cat Stevens, Scott Matthews, James Morrison and Paolo Nutini. The songs are pure poetry sung with passion and real feeling. The songs are brought to life by Kalai's beautiful and accomplished guitar work, and added to by imaginative and unusual instrumental arrangements and harmonies. His ballads are achingly beautiful and the more upbeat songs are bluesy, soulful and funky. It's hard to pigeon-hole this guy but I think at some stage he is going to be massive. He is more accomplished than Jack Johnson and probably has been an inspriration for Scott Matthews (certainly if you like Scott, you will enjoy this). I think Kalai is going somewhere, however I am not sure that this album is going to be the one that opens all the doors. Excellent though it is, I am not sure there is a stand-out single that will get him the attention he deserves, however I also feel that if I can inspire one other person to listen to and buy this, and they in turn inspire another, then perhaps Kalai's songs will creep into the hearts and homes of many. This is gentle yet edgy music which grows and deepens as you hear it more. It sounds gorgeous late at night with the lights low. I urge you to listen.
