Excellent recordings
Brilliantly performed works by Ms Faust both technically and musically and on a Stradivarius violin. The Berg Violin Concerto is heavy-going work but you won't find it better played than it is here.
The Beethoven is light, sweet and quirky with Beethoven's cadenza he originally wrote for the piano version of this work.

Brilliant Tippett
We are lucky enough to have several recordings of the great Tippett string quartets, and I have heard them. The Chandos recordings by the Kreutzer Quartet are the best in my opinion.
The Chandos recorded sound is excellent and produced by Meirion Bowen. The Kreutzer quartet make a beautifully sweet, controlled sound with lovely intonation, they give the music space and they excel in the tranquility of Tippett's string quartet no. 5.
Forget the competition, this is the recording to have.

Shostakovich at its best
Brilliant CD. Two contemporary works for viola and piano plus the Shostakovich viola sonata. The musicianship, balance and dynamics are superb. The CD is very lovingly produced by ECM. This is the best version of the Shostakovich Sonata captured on CD. You won't find it played better anywhere else.
