Images of Asia "Chinese Classical Furniture" by Grace Wu Bruce - Hardback Book
    02 Mar, 2021
    Useful Guide to Chinese Furniture
Grace Wu is an expert in this field and the book is an attractive and useful guide to Chinese classical furniture particularly from the Ming dynasty. Her references to classical texts are particularly valuable. We are seeing more and more modern reproductions coming onto the market dressed up and sold as antiques so Ms Wu Bruce's notes and color pictures are valuable. I would have appreciated a few words about the cleaning, conservation and display of these antique items but the book has a permanent place in my collection. Dr Glenn P. Wood
The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance

    Life changing
This book, The Hare with Amber Eyes, should be required reading for all collectors. It's amazing how the author takes us through the provenance of his collection of netsuke to reveal to us the history of his family and the 19thC up to, and including, the tragic events of WW11. The way he writes is inspirational and makes me want to research more the modest items in my my own collections. They may be small but have been silent witnesses to the human condition over decades and centuries.
Puma Punku and Tiwanaku : Strangest Ancient Place on Earth?, Paperback by Foe...

Art & Enigma in the Andes
I have visited the Tiwanaku/Puma Punku site many times and it's nice to see a book dedicated to it. Such a pity the pictures are small and in B/W but better than nothing. I was a little concerned about the more outlandish theories of historical age and alien creation but these are not overplayed. Stone masonry and weaving are regressive crafts and it's insulting to Andean craftsman to attribute their remarkable achievements to space visitors. It would have been interesting to include something about the plight of Bolivian archeaologists working on the site in the 1960s/1970s who allowed precious artifacts to leave the site and the country to compensate for lack of adequate compensation.
