BBC at its very best
A piece of late seventies brilliance from Dennis Potter and the BBC. The acting and choreography is outstanding from all the players no matter how large the role. The way the 'realities' of life segue into escapist songs, lip-synced perfectly by the cast is extraordinary. The more I watch this (I watched it as a sixteen year old when it was first shown in 1978) the more it haunts me. Bitter sweet all the way through, disturbing and almost shocking, even now.

Good old days...
The foreword in the book says it all. These images are what was allowable. They have an innocence which occasionally makes one yearn for and yet one studies each image, hoping to see just a little bit of something which managed to get past the editor of the time and even more so, the censor. I suppose this lust to see a little bit more all the time has led to the un-erotic tsunami of porn which floods the world today and makes one yearn for the past.
These books contain about 300 well selected photos, each of the best quality, even better than in their original publications.
