The DR-07 is perfect - the DR-07X is not.
This has more extremely useful features than the DR-07X. But it is out of production. You have to have both (which I have) to appreciate the difference. I bought this as a back-up to the DR-07 I have been using. I don't know what Tascam had in mind to eliminate the features of the 07. Crazy. But they are hard to get now. Grab one if you can.

So Far, So Good
I am running AFX HO slot cars. I built a stand for the Carrera from foam-core board, since my track is on medium pile carpet. I have found the right height for the track above the Carrera base (little more than 1/2 inch). I run the cars thru it from the rear of the unit, which seems to work fine. My only concern is the on-off switch. It seems like I have to turn the unit off then on after each race. My concern is that this will wear the switch out relatively soon. I would wish they would have incorporated a button re-set. But, all in all, this suits my (simple) purpose very nicely - it works! And I don't need a lap top connected to dead sections of the track, special software, etc.

Bachmann Silver Series Cars Are Great
This car is really detailed - there are thick 'wood' spacers between the realistic steel slabs. The colors are great. A really nice addition to my train.
