Best manufacturing value for a tasteful and effective multitool
I bought the Victorinox Swisstool X with ratchet first, then this one. I've also hanlded two Leatherman same size multitools and one SOG. There is no comparison. The Swisstool is on a different level in terms of design and production quality: the tolerances, the tightness and smoothness, nothing has unintended movements sideways, all the tools
are locking.
The Swisstool Spirit is in my view a more effective multitool than the Swisstool X - the size and shape is more comfy in hand without gloves; everything else works just as well. One major difference is the use of a serrated safety blade with sheepfoot shape. It's definitely good for cutting and maybe even suitable for seat belt cutting. Though opening boxes is better with the standard blade.
I believe I wouldnt want to use these multitools (swisstool and the spirit) for some heavy duty EDC, which would mean wearing the tool down. Not that I think it couldnt take it - on the contrary, it works very well and is strongly built. It's just that I'd be unhappy to beat on it too much. A piece of art like that shoul be kept in car or house when one rarely needs it to be used on occasions and be admired, not worn down by hammering it into a wooden beam or throwing it into a oil pan which will never be cleaned out. That is also the only weakness which I think these tools have - they are so good-looking and well made, that it's almost a pity to use them hard.
So the bottom line is: if you wanna use it as an edc for everyday work (as in a job - electrician, plumber, builder etc), you may be better off with a Leatherman Surge, but if you need to replace a whole toolbox with one small leather sheath and have yourself covered in small life tasks, this one is for you. Blows the competition out of the water.
If you look at the price of the ratchets sold seperately, you'd see it's about 1/3 of the price of the tool, which may a little steep for a few bits and two ratchet pieces. That's only till you try these out. Simply superb! Very smooth and functional. The combination of those two pieces covers almost all need to work with confined spaces. The only problem I've noticed with these, is the bit being pressed out the other side when applying pressure. You may simply press it out, so lightly holding it eih your finger may be the answer.
All in all I wouls really recommend this Swisstool Spirit XC with ratchet and for most uses ever over the Swisstool X.

Does the job
It doesn't have the high quality feel to it, but it works, although I've used it for 2 weeks. The splines are good and tight, no wiggle, no clunk. The price is a bit close to the likes of Sparco parts, which I didn't buy because wasn't sure about compatibility. There is no major gap between the hub and the steering column, so not much dust should get in there, although some will.

Great watch even for much more money than it costs
A classic and very functional piece. Everything works as intended, the alarms are easy to set up and manipulate. A nice touch is the deep sitting time adjustment button, that won't be easily pressed during other activities or unintended.
