Historic Organs of Baltimore
As an Organist and a historian, I was impressed by the CDs and the jacket notes. So many times, the history behind the recorded selections are not mentioned and one has to do the research himself. Well, this set is A-1. It has the history of who built the organ, when, location of organ and the pipe configuration. Additionally, the pieces selected are for the most part the music for the organ at the time. Even some pieces by deceased and noted Baltimore organists/composers to enhance the experience. If you want to learn about music and appreciate the evolution of the pipe organ, you won't go wrong with these CDs. True, some pieces were recorded with an audience; but I liked that. And I also heard the stops being changed and pedals being pushed. We need more of these type of recordings. How can we preserve something without telling our listeners what it is that we are preserving and actually hearing the live performances? Too many recordings today are sanitized!! Keep up the excellent work!!
