Westone UM Pro 30 Smoke In-Ear Monitors with Detachable Cable and Case
    04 Jan, 2016
    Fantastic set of IEMs
This is my first set of IEMS that I've owned. I've used several types in the past (Shure, Westone), and after deciding to buy my own, I did a lot of research. The UM Pro 30 came out on top with other people's reviews compared to the money spent. There are much better models, but for my ears (or lack thereof), it becomes a matter of diminishing returns. They do sound much better that the Shure e215s that we use at one church. At another church, we use Westone UM Pro 10s (which sound great, by the way), and the Pro 30s have so much more clarity and separation in frequencies- it's much more accurate. At around 2-1/2 times the price of the Pro 10s, I think it's money well spent (especially if you can find them on sale). I'm still playing with the ear tips, finding the right combination of tips that work best for my ears. I may go for the Westone UM56 custom eartips, but still not sure if I can justify the cost. The foam eartips that come with all Westone Universal monitors are some ofthe most comfortable I've used. I like the hard case ("mini vault") that comes with the IEMs. I do wish there was a redesign in the case to help prevent the IEM cable from getting pinched in the case lip when closing the lid. I've not had to deal with Westone customer support, so I can't offer any insight in that department,.
Elite Core 18' ft Headphone Extension Cable & Bodypack VC for Personal Monitors

works great- might be a little expensive though
It's a little expensive for the type of cable it is- there's nothing magical about a stereo 1/4" right angle plug going into an XLR connector. If the cable strands are something special, like low/non-oxygen copper, silver plated, etc, so that sound fidelity is maintained over an 18ft cable to an expensive set of IEMs, then it's a bargain. But I could not find any specs on the cable. The bodypack is solid, and the volume control is nice- I like the fact that the volume control has detents instead of a continuous sweep- it's harder to knock your adjustment out by accidentally brushing against the volume knob. The bodypack is nice and compact, and has a good clip that keeps the pack secure on your belt. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.
