Excellent recording!

This is a classic recording by a wonderful Wagnerian conductor, Rudolf Kempe. The cast is stellar, and the orchestra is terrific. Sound quality is very good, particularly for that era of the early 60s.

Her autobiography is compelling, and her insights into musicianship and the anecdotes of her co-stars such as Franco Corelli, Luciano Pavarotti, Leonie Rysanek, and others are rich and amusing. She discusses the business of recording, and dealing with Rudolf Bing during his long tenure at the Metropolitan and the Wagner brothers during their decades at the Bayreuth Festival.

Excellent version of Beethoven's Ninth in a pristine recording!

I originally bought this digital recording on vinyl about 40 years ago, and I always enjoyed the performance of Karl Bohm with the Vienna Philharmonic. When I decided that I wanted the CD, the price was right and the sound quality is excellent!
