When the Banks Bet the House
This is a book about the sub-prime mortgage crisis of 2008. Some people realized that the banks could not go on lending on such poor assets, repackaging them and then selling them on indefinitely without the whole edifice crumbling. They were very smart people and not only did they realize the true state of things but they bet against the banks. When the banks effectively went bust they cleaned up. Lots of things are obvious with hindsight but it takes real guts to bet against them when everyone else says that you're wrong. A great read that once again proves that when things looks too good to be true it's usually because they are!!

Sure Shot!
A very good compact camera from the Cyber-Shot range. It was very advanced when it originally came out and was well made too. For the facilities the camera has it has very good battery life. It also has GPS. It is small enough to be carried aorund in a shirt pocket but also advanced enough to give consistently good results in all conditions.

Still Relevant Today
A book that was written the best part of one hundred years ago that is still relevant today, perhaps even more so because of the power of the big tech companies and the surveillance culture that is China today. A frightening number of words first used by Orwell have passed into common usage today. I've read it many times now and, each time, it worries me a bit more..
