    Great for rats
I bought this as an upgrade on my previous three-tier monster of a cage. It's actually substantially larger, and with no fixed platforms offers plenty of room for customisation with corner shelves, rope bridges, and hammocks (made from old socks in my case.) All in, with all these additional features it probably costs about the same as my previous one but is better in all regards. More space, easier to clean, and much better openings to retrieve the critters. The build quality is also far superior, and it was a doddle to assemble. The only down-side for rats so far is the lack of horizontal bars, which makes it more difficult for them to climb. This is easily overcome by some strategically placed fleece matting cable-tied to the sides though, together with a few ramps. One note - For rats, make sure you place some cardboard or fleece on the bottom level, as they can develop a painful foot condition if walking on bare bars. I read somewhere someone saying that it's unsuitable for female rats as the bars are too widely spaced and they can escape. I have three girls, two of them only about 3 months old, and there's zero chance of them wriggling through those gaps. I can only recommend that the previous poster return their animals to the pet-shop, as they have clearly been sold Pygmy Jerboas by mistake.
