See What You Might Have Missed
3 of 3 found this helpful Lots of us remember watching the great Benny Hill shows back in the 1970s & 80s. But, what many don't realize, the programs that were distributed in the U.S. and throughout the World were compilations of the sketches that Thames Television thought would have universal appeal. Often, the skits that were too 'British' or too racy were left on the cutting room floor, along with many musical numbers. This box set (and the others in the series) allows us to finally see the complete episodes as they were originally broadcast. At the time these shows were produced, Benny was still allowed to do his sly brand of Burlesque. It wasn't until the last 3 years with Thames, which appear in Set 6, that the moral watchdogs forced him to tone down the bawdiness. It's amazing, with today's glut of lewd & crude entertainment, that a little 'Wink Wink Nudge Nudge' was such an issue less than 20 years ago. I miss Benny; we shall not see his like again!

Slapstick, Sight Gags, Shtick
1 of 1 found this helpful This was Jerry's last hurrah at directing a live action comedy film, and he tries to recapture the humor of his earlier films, most notably "The Bellboy".
While it is much better than "Slapstick of Another Kind",(the dreadful movie that was released at about the same kind) it just doesn't have the freshness, timing or pathos of the '60s films. Nor the backing; it is quite low-budget and the studio didn't have enough faith in it to give it decent distribution.
I saw it on cable back in the '80s and enjoyed it enough to buy this video. If you're a fan of Lewis' brand of comedy, you'll probably like it too.
