That's entertainment!
I loved this film when I saw it on late night TV and enthused about it to all the olds in the family who might have gone to bed early that night. I was really chuffed to find a used but excellent condition copy for sale on eBay. My new aquisition was duly watched and then passed on. The essence of this film is Gilbert and Sullivan. Don't groan, this story is lyrical,very informative, funny,slightly rude,whimsical,sad.It could never be described as boring!The players are all perfect for their roles,especially the wonderful Mr Jim Broadbent. The make-up,costumes and scenery are delicious, so perfect that they cast a spell and transport you back in time to the music-hall era.The viewer is treated to all kinds of 'behind-the-scenes' snippets, and is made aware of the hard work that goes into every stage production. I can't fault this film, it's a real gem.
