Make sure you get a refund if you vanish!
I've always liked this film and is typical of the era it was set i.e. leaving one country which may not be safe to one where where there is safety andf you feel at home. What makes this film stand out is the amount of collusion by those 'suspicious' parties and no-one believes what you say!
It is laced with tremendous humour but has a serious side. Just how far will the bad guys go - the final scenes are nail-biting but with no obvious build up to it. Just sit back and enjoy the banter between the 'hero' and the 'heroine' - might not work today, more's the pity!

Why did they bother making a remake?
This is an excellent film which keeps yiuy guessing all the way through. It really boils down to a battle of wills between Robert Shaw and Walter Matheau.
I would suggest reading the book by John Godey and then watching the filrm (avoid the remake like the plague!)

When the lights go down, let someone else look into it!
An engaging Victorian thriller which builds slowly to it's conclusion. The charaters range from the downright manipulative, to the eccentric neighbour, the angst ridden central character and the dashing rescuer. The atmosphere is par for the time in which the story is set. I cannot find any negative points at all!
