Exhilarating and delightful viewing.
I first saw this when it was broadcast by the French channel TV5 which was available on the Virgin platform sometime around 2006 and it impressed me with its staged effects and the variety of dancing styles on display. An interesting blend of modern technology and Rameau's centuries old music. Being a lover of classical music, I had expected period choreography only, but I was completely taken with this performance's charm, humour and sheer exuberance. I don't know if this was a one-off production, but capturing on video for future audiences to enjoy has been well worth it. If modern dance and Rameau's music appeal, grab it quick. I'd even say if you like one and not the other, still grab it for its sheer entertainment value!

Excellent value.
Having bought this as a back-up to my branded wireless mouse for use on a second laptop, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it works equally as well. As with my main mouse, the requirement was for one where the wireless receiver could be secured in the main body of the mouse to lessen the risk of it being misplaced. It doesn't feel to have the solidity of my branded mouse, I suspect down to the quality of the plastics used in its construction, but this doesn't detract at all to how it performs. All in all, very good value at the price and I have docked it one star only because it has a tendency to go into auto power saving mode far too quickly when it detects it hasn't been moved in a while, and which then requires the on-off switch to bring it back to life, unlike my branded mouse which responds to movement.

Excellent, but eclipsed by Bondarchuck's epic.
With its line-up of top Hollywood actors and Hollywood production values, this is an excellent introduction to Tolstoy's great masterpiece. The BluRay print is also excellent. The story traces events from the early 1800's in Russian society, specifically as it affected certain families, to just after the French campaign in Russia leading to their eventual defeat in 1812 after the disastrous incursion to Moscow.
This version, as with all others, though, now falls under the shadow of Segei Bondarchuk's epic 1966 version, which is shot on a truly grand scale and which lasts around 7 hours, compared to the US version's 3h 20m.
For all it's polish, though, I find it difficult to put aside the "Americanism" of a truly Russian story and which misses the Russian soul that Bondarchuk brings to it. But if you are put off by sub-titles, then this version should still serve you well.
