Much Ado about Nothing

Has alot in it, but not what I wanted and that is Fanny Mendelssohn's songs. It's a very thick book, 2inch spine depth. There is an index of poets and translators on page 701. I was looking for Hölty and he's found on pages 57-9, 231-2 and 325-9 and found the poem I wanted on page 57 in the Brahms section. It would have been instructive if Stokes (author of the book) could have mentioned that Fanny Mendelssohn had composed to Die Mainacht aswell as Brahms (the most known) for this poem. This book has to be used in conjunction with other better reference books and is just taking up space on my shelf. I don't think the layout is well thought out. Composers, poets and translators are all over the place and you really need to know the German title and first line of the song (as opposed to translations), which are indexed at the back. I would recommend Art Song and Song by Carol Kimball for an in-depth instructive reference books.

Back is cheap and flimsy.

A lovely frame. I sent it as a condolences for a daughter’s death. The backing aperture where the photos is put in is badly made and flimsy. Lost it a star.
