Can't afford to miss a word.........
Looking forward to reading this....another Clash book I hear you say...well yes..
I've read the rest..I've written one myself....and it seems like me Gary Jucha realized that you needed
a different approach ..rather than recounting the story chronologically...like a straight biography..you have to try and mix it up a little
This is a very well researched book....and as an avid dig-ester of the other Clash books ....there is indeed stuff in here that I didn't know about previously
Some of the sections start at one particular time period...but then drop in something from later in the "story" to maybe tie up some loose ends
and make some connections ..or make sense of what happened.
I like the way some of the chapters incorporate lyrics or song titles....something I tried myself.
There is a lot of info in here 370 pages with some black and white photos.
Gary J covers some ground here...a fan it seems...an American fan...who saw the band on both sides of the Atlantic at various stages
of the bands career.
The book does cover the start of the band (and pre band background)...right up to the bitter end and post Clash activity/solo/side projects
GJ has some opinions.....and although I don't agree with some of them....certainly got me engaged...or provoked even...so..like the
Clash's music....that's a result. Some focus on Mick...which is a good thing...an extremely talented bloke...and I think he is overlooked a bit
in other books.
I think if you are a fan...you are going to want to read this.. a well researched book..and cleverly written and entertaining...there is more "Band Appreciation" than you might
find in other rock biogs. GJ does make the point that there is a ton of stuff out there about the Clash...online/in print/on record and video...compared to other artists (he also wrote a
Jimi Hendrix FAQ Book)...and I think this fact is a measure of how important the Clash were and still are.
If you are an anorak like me ...you might find some facts you might "dispute"...always difficult this....in some cases...nobody REALLY knows what happened.
