biOrb One-Way Valve Non-Return for Airline in Aquarium Fish Tanks Air Line

Unfortunately doesn't work
I got this valve to prevent backflow of water from my biorb tank into the air pump. Previously we had been sitting the pump on top of the tank overnight. The valve seems to prevent air flowing the wrong way, but when I installed the valve in the line between the air pump and the tank, and left the pump below water level overnight with the pump switched off, the valve failed under the pressure of water from the tank, and allowed water to flow backwards through the valve and flood the pump. Have left the valve in the line and gone back to putting the pump up above water level at least when it is switched off at night. I think the valve would work as long as air was constantly being pumped through it in the right direction, but failed under pressure of water.
