Great lens?
pros: fast focusing, 2.8 through the range, feels solid, big step up in image quality from kit lens, for nikon dx there is no better option cons: weight, size, size of hood, expensive (second hand are still more expensive than 3rd party equivalent) not as a big step up as you might expect in some situations, leave a 55-70mm gap in most kit bags (ony a problem if you are unable to move) conclusion: Definately buy one!!! if you dont like it sell it, you are unlikely to loose much. i am keeping mine if the weight is an issue buy a battery grip for your camera it helps balance it a lot! tip: if you are steping up to this level of kit dont put your old cheep uv filter on, get a decent one, you would be suprised the difference it makes!

For the enthusiast or pro
pros: raw shooting, excelent fast and wide angle lens, manual controls, solid build with good handling yet still compact, hyperfocal snap mode gives instant shooting and very capable continuous shooting (in jpeg) full paper back instruction manual is very usefull (for even the most capable) cons: small sensor can give noisy results in low light, raw mode slows prossesing to a point its not usefull for any fast shooting application. only really suitable for anyone who knows exactly what they are doing with a camera as it is highly customiseable. limited telephoto if you are a photography enthusiast or a pro looking for a pocket camera this is the camera for you, if not dont bother
