Maximizes The Yard Size
1 of 1 found this helpful We have a narrow and deep yard. A traditional pet fence goes on the perimeter, and spreads its signal out from the wire. The stronger the signal, the wider the barrier and the further it intrudes into the yard. In our case, when we turned it up high enough, the dog had trouble getting from the front to the back yard.
Also, once the dog is through the barrier, they stop getting a 'minder'. Our dog figured out that if she put her head down and ran, she was free.
Not so with this model. The signal goes from the wire out, leaving the entire yard inside the wire available for the dog. And the dog gets punished from the moment she broke through the barrier until she returned (limit 15 seconds). The amount of power for the punishment is adjustable.
The trick is that the wire has to be setup correctly, which is easy to do. I had already installed the wire for an older model. If I hooked up this wrong, the signal would go into the yard. If it had, I just had to reverse the connections inside the house. Easy.
The only quibbles are the instructions for turning up the transmitter power. The instructions say to start out low, and slowly increase. I was not getting a response from the collar. I called and the tech basically said, don't start at setting 1, go to 7 and see how that works. Perfect and problem solved.
Setting the collar is a bit confusing with holding the button and counting the flashes. I had to read and follow the instructions carefully which is not how most people install new products.
But those quibbles are minor. My stubborn escaping dog got shocked once and she has not tried again.
A wonderful product.

Stunningly Overpriced
Amazingly overpriced. Go to a pinball parts supplier for rubber rings.
