Shades Of Things To Come
Fly To The Rainbow, released in 1974, is the second album from German hard rockers Scorpions. It is also on this recording that the band begins to develop their sound that they would keep through out the 1970's. This is due in no small part to the addition of new band members guitarist Uli Jon Roth (a Hendrix fancier) and bassist Francis Buchholz. For those thinking about purchasing this CD, keep in mind that this is not Scorpions at their best. Although, the song "Speedy's Coming" is one of my personal favorites from the band. Bottom line - if all you know is 1980's era Scorpions - don't buy this CD. It will come as too much of a shock to you. If however, you are one of those curious people who want to know what the Scorpions sounded like before you or anyone else ever heard them on the radio in 1979, then what the heck, take a chance, you might like this one.

"Easy to read card with great action photo on face"
Only has recent major league performance (past five seasons). However, career highlights section is excellent.

Sweet, Sweeter, Sweetest!
British glam-rockers The Sweet originally released their Give Us A Wink album in 1976. It was recorded in Munich, Germany and is, I think, their finest effort. Flush with the success of having scored a hit single on both sides of the Atlantic with the re-recorded "Fox On The Run" in 1975 and divorcing themselves from producers/songwriters Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, the band was now free to do things their way. The result was a hard-rocking album featuring excellent songwriting, a lush guitar-driven sound with some keyboards thrown in, and of course, the band's trademark harmony vocals. As a bonus for U.S. record buyers, Capitol Records threw in the ballad "Lady Starlight" (from the U.K. version of Desolation Boulevard) with added instrumentation. This is Sweet at their peak and is my pick for best hard rock album of 1976. If you like 70's/80's era hard rock/heavy metal music and haven't yet picked up on Sweet, I recommend the U.S. Capitol Records versions of Give Us A Wink and Desolation Boulevard (1975).
