Best 65W AM2 CPU
2.8GHz dual core. Compatible with AM2 motherboards. Only 65W cooling fan. Plays nice with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit. *All the AM2 CPUs that run at more than 2.8GHz require cooling fans at substantially higher wattage.

Great for Low Spec PCs
The AMD Athlon 64 2650e (1.6GHz single core) plays nicely with Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit and 1GB RAM. I used this CPU in a low-spec testing rig to see how low the specs can go with a modern OS. At only 1.6GHz, the AMD Athlon 64 2650e performed better than expected. I used it with a Nvidia GT 610 graphics card and ran some old games: ZDoom with the Brutal Doom mod, Quake via QuakeSpasm, and Quake III via ioQuake3 all ran great. Some 2D indie games ran pretty good too, like Retro City Rampage. Old arcade ports from SNK/Neo Geo: Garou MOTW, King of Fighters 2002, Metal Slug 3...ran dang good as well. The 2650e is a good start to a 'retro gaming' rig.
