A peerless compact, which will do all you want amd more.
I bought this on the strength of very favourably reviews in photo magazines, and to stand in for my Nikon D800 when I'm out and about, since I'm in my mid-70s and beginning to find the weight of a DSLR and lens a bit much to cart around. The Sony is a brilliant little camera, and I do mean little. (Even when it's in its optional leather case,I can still squeeze it into a jacket pocket). When I took some photos of our fortnight-old granddaughter, her mother (who had already seen dozens of shots taken on a variety of family and friends' cameras) immediately commented: "Your camera takes excellent pictures". The Zeiss lens is exceptionally good, as is the handling and shape of the camera. I like the little lever which you work back and forth to alter the focal length in stages. The definition is simply great. I find the image quality, at least for the small-sized prints I do (6x4, 7x5, 8x6), and for online transmission, at least as good as I get from my very costly DSLR set-up. And I have the relaxed feeling of knowing that, if I ever want to do bigger blow-ups, there will be little or no perceptible reduction in quality. And when we are out walking the baby in its pram, I can, without any fatigue, keep the camera on, poised and ready, so as to capture her changing expressions and moods.
My only gripes are about (1) the cost of accessories: £65 for the mock-leather ever-ready case seems a heck of a lot, despite its high quality; (2) the unavailability as yet (early Oct 2012), in the UK, of a mains battery charger, and its anticipated high cost when it finally doea appear (what comes with the camera is a USB charger to be run through a computer); (3) the rather poor users' guide, which tells you only about the camera's most basic functions. For a fuller account, you have to consult the online guide; (4) this online guide is exhaustive, but it's in umpteen pages (can't remember how many, but enough to deter you from printing it out). Surely it would have been possible to strike a compromise between the next-to-nothing guide you get with the camera and the doorstep-sized everything on line?
Despite these quibbles, I don't regret for a moment laying out the fairly considerable cost of this camera. The reviews I've read of potential rivals which have been launched since this one all leave me feeling they are not such good buys, all things considered, as the one I have. I have that comfortable feeling that I have a top-class compact, which will do all I want and more, and which is not already outclassed in its category by more recent rivals.

Jakar pencil sharpener great.
I know Jakar as a very reliable, high quality brand from my picture mounting days. This mains electric pencil sharpener is the newest of 3 top makes I keep handy in different places around the place. It’s every bit as good as the other two. No complaints at all.
