Superb book.
This is not a history book in the normal genre, it is an observation of the British soldier circa 1800's. Who he was, how he thought and the equipment he used and his evolution as the century passed. the extensive use of quotations from diaries, letters and official documents makes this a fascinating and enjoyable read. Highly recommended to anyone interested in this period of history.

Excellent book.
A practical alternative to conventional bee hives, that you can build for yourself, with the added bonus that the hives are better for the bees. If you are disenchanted with the continuous focus on honey production at the expense of bee welfare, then this and its sister book will start you on a new path of bee husbandry. The book is clear and concise, written in plain English and easy to follow. Recommended.

If you are interested in a more natural and less intrusive way of keeping bees [in as much as anyone "keeps" bees] then you will find this book and its sister companion [How to build a top bar hive] fascinating. It is written in an easy to understand manner without being dumbed down or condescending and should provide a solid basis on which to build for the future. Thoroughly recommended.
