Best movie about the Titanic
The effects aren't as snazzy as Cameron's knock-off some 39 years later, but huge production values for its time, and this is certainly the better of the two movies. Better casting, better direction, better acting, and historically more accurate, to the point of duplicating the suspect iceberg from 45-year-old old photographs!
The black and white cinematography somehow feels more "right" for the topic, and B&W looks great even on old VHS.
I never bought the contention that the ship broke in half before sinking - it was a surprise when discovered and no accounts of such from survivors who would most assuredly have remembered seeing something like that.
