Compelling historical account
An interesting read which brings to life the hardships faced by the poor in Victorian Britain and especially by women. The author has attempted to piece together the lives of the five official Ripper victims from documentation of the period and created a compelling account which includes an indictment of the distortions reported about the victims, a product of the prurient attitudes and double standards applied to women.

Useful stands and good quality
Purchased a set of three stands and they are all nice quality with the edges smoothed off, nothing sharp. They are very easy to use to pose dolls of 11 - 12 inches in height - Sindy dolls in this case. Planning to buy some more before too long.

A Solid and Informative Account of a Terrible Disaster
An informative account of the events leading up to the explosion at Chernobyl, including the context in which the tragedy occurred - the political system which those in power manipulated to keep themselves in power - and the pressures on ordinary folk trying to survive the demands of the Communist Party. The culture of the USSR encouraged waste, drunkeness and slipshod work, a lethal combination in the nuclear industry, yet many of the workers were far more responsible than in other industries and were badly let down by those set over them.
The book also explains how such a reactor was meant to work, its fatal flaws which were covered up by the authorities, and the different types of nuclear radiation and their effects on people. It also brings the story up to date with the recent developments affecting the site and the new containment building required due to the inadequacies of the original - which had to be constructed under extremely dangerous conditions and despite the usual unreasonable demands of the USSR authorities. So this is a very informative read for anyone interested in the subject.
