Highly enlightening and fascinating read
The author expertly ties together all the many strands from a historical angle as far back as the American Civil War, followed by the persecution that prompted the different European Jewish communities to leave Europe is search of a better life. The way these hard working, driven folk carved out a living using all their skills to get ahead. A vivid and insightful depiction of the new social class and mores established within this new monied class, together with the subsequent new form of isolation and restrictions that came with the rise of these gifted immigrants; very well written and explained, it sets the scene. The creative energy of the new 20th century art scene centred in Paris; the modest beginnings of so many of the 20th Century greats and the interwoven destiny that Peggy Guggenheim played in this pulsating world is a giddy read, guaranteed to make your head spin. The lives of current celebrities seem grey in comparison compared to this technicolour world! A terrific read for anybody interested in the Art, Culture, People who make a difference and how big things grow from the smallest beginnings!

Exquisite artist, a must read, beautiful book!
Excellent book. Good illustrations, A superb artistic movement, much undiscovered and much undervalued here in the UK. Impressionism was Nov just a French movement. The Garden School was mesmerising in its handling of light, water and fauna. A total escape into an impressionst world. To be great I enjoyed!
