Unreliable software
6 of 6 found this helpful Initially quite pleased as it was very simple to install and worked 'from the box'. But...
After a while I noticed the hardware was requesting a 'firmware update' via the App on my phone. I followed the instructions to carry out the update and it appeared to install successfully. At the end of the update procedure the thermostat rebooted itself and suddenly the temperature reading was about 3degrees lower than it was giving prior to the update i.e. just a couple of minutes earlier.
We have 3 thermometers in the house and prior to the firmware update they all matched to within half a degree or so. Following the update the thermostat now always reads about 2.0 - 3.5 degrees lower than the other two. The discrepancy doesn't appear to be consistent, which makes it impossible to use operate the thermostat effectively, even by 'fudging' the programmed temperatures down. Clearly the Firmware Update has resulted in a malfunction.
I have been trying to contact Salus technical support to find out how to uninstall the firmware update or recalibrate the thermostat, but unfortunately they don't respond. As a result, the product has essentially failed around 3 months after installation. Although it is cheaper than other internet controlled thermostats on the market, for me it has been a false economy and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
As an aside, even when it was working 'correctly' I also found the App to be quite 'buggy' and would not reliably sync to the unit, especially when used on Android. All in all I think the product could have been good but it has been let down by poor software and firmware programming which seems inadequately tested prior to release, and also by lack of technical support from the manufacturer.
