A different sort of kid book
I do read International authors for adults, so I decided to read this one for probably 10 to 14 year olds. I loved the India setting, the magical adventure of the story. The 2 main kid characters learn valuable life lessons on their journey, about family, what it means to hold power, and how to face down the negative powers that are against them. I think this a great escape for a child to read this book, also there are 2 more in the series, which I will look forward to reading next!

A Great Storyteller!
I have read most of Amitav Ghosh's books. I was happy to find out this story connected to an earlier book of his "The Hungry Tide". I love his stories! You also learn a lot about India in reading his books. If you are just starting to read Amitav Ghosh, maybe start with "The Glass Palace".
