Superbly crafted prose!
Unbelievably well crafted book! Every paragraph, every sentence is like the stroke of a brush of a master artist, except it paints a vivid picture in the mind, not the eyes. I can't wait to read her other books.

Best historical fiction of the Hill Country ever!
This is the finest work of historical fiction that is set in the German Hill Country of Texas that I have ever read--and I'm an old History teacher. I cannot recommend this series--and other works by Celia Hayes--enough. May of the characters were real life pioneers, and the other characters were so realistically portrayed that it seemed that these were the old timers that I knew in my youth. My only caveat is not to binge read these books: read one chapter at a time and savor the story and the characters like you would a fine wine.
