Definitely needs full sun to work.

The item arrived rather quickly from overseas. It works, but definitely needs full sun. Even covering one of the cells with shade will stop the flow. No way to store energy so it is work or not work. If you have shade it will not work for you, full sun = nice little fountain for birdbath or water garden.
