Good resource to augment your guide.
I've just started looking through this DVD, and I'm impressed by the number of species covered. The images are good and are perfect for filling in the gaps of any guide, most notably in that the still photos of book field guides can do only so much when identifying a bird you've seen--especially a bird that isn't especially distinctive, like, say, a female house finch or something. It's great to have a go-to source like this to see short video of a species and hear its song/call. The biggest shortcoming I notice thus far, however, is that each little profile--which is, by the way, perhaps forgivably and probably thankfully devoid of narration or informational overview--could really benefit from having a range map displayed. I think the folks who put this thing together have done a lot of work and I'm thankful for their efforts; however, I think this is a glaring oversight. A range map for each species could profoundly help one discern if they have seen the bird they are thinking they might have, which I think is in large part the purpose of having this reference. Moreover, another niggling complaint is that pressing the menu button while watching takes one back to only the family/group menu and not the main menu for the disc. I have to hit stop and then start the DVD again to get to the main menu--a bit of a navigational pain. All in all, though, this DVD is cool, and it's a welcome addition to the bird-nerd section of my bookcase. Better Birdwatching deserves many props for putting out stuff like this. God knows few are the organizations that would be so painstakingly committed to put together DVD resource like this in which simple visual and audial information trumps puerile and idiotic entertainment.

Cool LP
A good compilation of a super-cool and very important artist, and the pressing is better quality than some new LPs I’ve bought recently.
