A well documented history of Portsmouth Cinemas & Theatres
Purchased this book because of my interest in cinemas & theatres nationally. Some years ago I visited the Portsmouth area,this year I revisited not just the area but to recapture images of photos taken previously. This book purchased after this years visit enabled me to find more history of the huge amount of cinemas & theatres that the Portsmouth area once posessed. Ron Brown is obviously not just a photographer but also a historian & has captured a lot of places now lost over the years. Like many books of this type old photos don't lend themselves to good reproduction,however the majority are good. I think that perhaps a then & now series(in the same book)can portray a better representation of what has happened in whatever area is being covered & sometimes comes across better than just a "then" book.It would of course mean more in a series.This is intended to be constructive criticism & NOT a fault. Thoroughly enjoyed the purchase & would recommend anyone looking for photos of cinemas past & present of the Portsmouth area that this would be a worthwhile addition to their collection.
