Wolverine Pass200, Next Generation Handheld Scanner,
    14 Jun, 2017
Simple, easy to use, excellent value.
This is a portable scanner that I bought in order to scan documents to save for future reference. I chose this model over other similar wand-style scanners because it is able to capture both text and figures, whereas some other scanners in the price range can only scan text. It is light weight and easily portable. I have largely used this item to scan pages from books, and the resolution even while on the low setting is quite good. The option of higher resolution is available as well, with the resulting document size being larger. There is also an option to scan in colour or in black and white. Personally, I have not used the colour/high resolution to scan photos, however this is possible using this product (As I have not used that setting, I cannot specifically comment on the quality of the scan from my own experience) This item scans the files as JPEG, but these may be converted to other file types like PDF once on the computer. However, it has some flexibility in that it scans to an SD card for storage, or you can use USB port to directly transfer to a computer. The actual power for the device is from two AA batteries, and thus far I have used it for about 100 scans and not needed to replace the batteries. The main difficulty I have encountered is that very thin and slippery/glossy paper (Eg: some magazines like the Economist) has more trouble in reliably scanning, and an error message results. I think this is in part from the texture of the page, perhaps some reflection on the surface, and the difficulty in scanning at a uniform pace. Over all I found the learning curve to get to know the features on this was fairly quick. Anything I needed to troubleshoot was covered in the manual and quickly resolved. This has been an awesome way for me to scan items from books like reference items, or harder-to-find books that are either out of print and unavailable to purchase, or are only available to purchase for $$$. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good on-the-go scanner. Plus, I mean, it's called the Wolverine. What more do you want?!
