Totally mind boggling
1 of 1 found this helpful What a book. This is such a classic yet I'd never read it. It draws you in to the comfortable and loving world of Philip and his adoptive 'father' Ambrose, which is then turned upside down by a series of events set in train by Rachel. Is she good or is she bad? Du Maurier keeps you guessing until the last page, and beyond. Excellent read.

Thought provoking
A bit of a wierd and wonderful book. Quite academic, a bit rambling in places. Covers a great deal of ground. Sometimes I just didn't know what point was being made, at others I was bowled over by the ideas presented. It's good to read a book about horses written from a non-British point of view.

Gets you gripped
Maybe a bit slow to start but gets to you by half way through. It's one of those books that you are prepared to miss things for, or sit down and read when you ought to be doing something else. Much food for thought with plenty of interesting plot twists.
