Mid-Fi Demo Tape Fuzz guitar bass pedal face factory zvex devi ever catalinbread
04 Jun, 2016
Versatile fuzzy goodness for a GREAT price
I'd listened to demos of the Mid-fi Tape Demo Fuzz and thought "cool. Mild fuzz to totally overdriven tape sounds all with a 'lo-fi' sheen that fits what I'm trying to do with my guitar sound these das." The trouble finding one of those Mid-fi to demo and the $200+ cost were concerns though. Then along comes this build. I could justify the flyer on the cost and probably get most of my money back if I don't dig it. Only I do fig it. A lot! All the low-fi funky fuzz sounds I sought were here in abundance. With bass and treble dials, I can also achieve even more versatility then I would have imagined. Probably my favorite surprise is how good a Big Muff sound I can get from the pedal and how well that sound can cut through the mix thanks to the treble dial. I have a Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian on my board that is an impeccable pedal. Only I think I could probably sacrifice that lovely pedal for this 'clone' that can meet my sludgy Muff needs while simultaneously hitting my low-fi needs, mild fuzz needs, and my 'amp is about to explode' needs. The Mid-fi clone may be a tiny bit less heavy overall than the muff, but cuts so much better and enough more versatile that it's a great choice for that realm of sounds. Mild overdrive might better come from elsewhere and I wouldn't turn to this for Marshall crunch, but that's OK. I love it for both what and how much it does. Build quality seems good too. I haven't done a 'gut-dive' but on the outside, it's pretty strong. Knobs turn easily with no electronic crackle. I think the knobs feel less substantive than most of the bigger builders stuff, but not enough less to cause worry. I'm tossing pedals in a backpack and hoping for the best each time I play out and have both a board and case for the pedalbard. Foots witch seems good and reassuring when stomped on. Works fine on 9 volt from an isolated supply (Voodoo Lab pedal power), but quiet high pitch whine when Daisy chained on a One-Spot. I'm still delighted with it and give it a strong recomendation, especially for the price.
