I am glad I saw the film before I read the book. The film differed wildly from the facts as portrayed in the book. The book was much better.

HANDY TELEPHOTO
The lens weighs 310 grams which is less than the 590gram Canon EOS 400D body for which I bought it. It is 105mm long so is quite compact and works comfortably on the body. I am new to digital photography and the 200mm lens is equivalent to about 250mm on a 30mm SLR. The large grip manages Zoom function very well.I found the Automatic focus very good for objects on the ground, but not much good for tracking birds in flight. The focus seemed to land on clouds and leave the bird/ birds out of focus. This may be a function of the lens or the camera it is hard to say. Switching to manual focus solved the problem. The manual focus has no grip so would be hard to operate wearing gloves. The standard lens sold with the Canon is a 18 - 55mm Zoom, so the 55 - 200mm is a useful extension. The main drawback is the aperture starting at f4.5 which needs quite a lot of sunshine for action shots. Depending on how you are going to use the lens and whether to go for a more expensive wider f number lens is well worth considering before purchase. The results so far have been very pleasing and I am very happy with my lens.
