FOXPRO X1 Electronic Predator Call
12 Jan, 2021
Good unit, should last a long time.
I've had a Wildfire for many years and it's served me well. I decided to try an upgrade and retire my Wildfire for backup use. X1 "pros" over the Wildfire - more sound at a wider range of volume. The remote is far better than the Wildfire. With my aging eyes I can actually read the display. Foxpro should consider more contrast between the background and lettering for easier readability. I love the extended range over the Wildfire. I can set the speaker at much greater distances away than the Wildfire, which is a huge benefit. Lastly, all of the preloaded sound files are probably more than I'll ever use/need. Cons of the X1 has to be the price. Come on. Seriously. I started out calling with a cassette recorder, Johnny Stewart cassette tape, and a PA speaker patched into the auxiliary plug in on the cassette recorder. No remote, no "on the fly" volume adjustment, but you know what.....it worked. I'm sure the bean counters and marketing folks at Foxpro know their price point, but it could easily be $100 less in price and you would probably have a lot more people jumping on....just my opinion. The total unit is considerably larger and it weighs more. It probably isn't a big deal to most folks who drive from stand to stand, but you really notice the difference on long walks when carrying it versus lighter units. Lastly, warranty on these things should be much longer - under normal use. We'll see if the unit lasts as long as my el cheap Wildfire did.
