If you're looking for your first film camera.
1 of 1 found this helpful Don't worry about AE-1's or A-1's or the like. They're massively too popular and overpriced as a result.
Buy one of these.
They're much cheaper, much more reliable and have much more dependable automation. And there's a manual mode if you feel like it - which manages to be reasonably useable. The ergonomics are modern - it's easy and intuitive to control and feels good and secure in the hand.
It'll take ten minutes to figure out what the buttons do if you have any sort of familiariy with a camera. It'll take two seconds to figure out how to put film in it and turn the switch to 'Green Square' and make good pictures with metronomic reliability.
It is built solidly - with plastic body panels on a heavy metal core. It can double-duty for hammering in nails, or fence-posts.
Also, if you feel like it, you'll be able to walk into a Canon dealer and buy a brand new €10,000 EF lens and it'll work just as happily as it will on any 1Dx you'd care to throw at it. Image stabilisation and all.
