DS-Lite as a Soft Virtual Analog Synthesizer.
4 of 4 found this helpful These machines are super fun with the right accessories... the Korg DS-10 cartridge gives this machine an eternal value all on it's own, but if you're brave or lucky and find a micro-SD to game cartridge adapter, then Protein DS, Glitch DS, and NitroTracker DS 0.4 give this machine sampling, sequencing, capabilities far beyond its modest retro-gaming price tag. If there were only a way to give it access to MIDI hardware without a separate computer being required.

Something different. Get the 1.3 update and Components access.
It's not analog and not just another virtual analog device. Has a very step sequencer centric workflow but can also be played and sequenced in realtime for both drums and it's 2 polyphonic synths. The 1.3 firmware updates and Components computer interfaces really open it up. Allowing per step, drum and sample changes on all four drum channels. Also new is letting users substitute their own sounds for any of the 64 default drum sounds. It's flexible and rewards those with an exploratory bent towards their gear.

6 years ago [2013] JD Sound built the coolest and best stand alone portable DJ tool ever... and now all these years later it's still the best.
I bought this because I wanted to improve my DJ skills... I also didn't want to have to crack out a laptop or connect a bunch of cables to get going every time. Playing MP3s off 32gb SD cards makes this a no brainer. You won't trash any vinyl but you can still mix and loop mark cue points. You will lose hours with this device. You will mix, loop, cue, scratch, and mess with FX. You won't worry about sleeves, filing records, or lifting heavy milk crates. This is a great device. It gets bad press as a toy, if you are reading this and the toy classification puts you off I feel sorry for you. If this is a toy it must be one of the greatest toys ever. It's seriously fun to use, and playing music with it is more entertaining than anything built before or since. The controls are small but the device is small... My hands are big and I don't have any trouble operating the controls. It's not a scratch competition style device... You won't get urban street credentials from owning or operating it. You will have fun and play with your mp3 collection in ways you never have before. It really is great at encouraging mix experimentation.
