Great for tracking stems, good quality

I use it for recording all my stem tracks from outboard analog mixer. In this regard the recording quality is good; the converters are clean and have nice frequency response. I would put the perceived quality slightly above my computer/interface setup in terms of recordings having a touch more weight to them and sound clearer/cleaner. You can get a slight boost in performance if you use a regulated dc power supply as I do (bought from parts express.com). I took a star away based because tascam took away MIDI function. A msg to tascam: not everyone plays a guitar, some off us need this midi sync. Bring it back on next model with spdif i/o please.

Aphex Dominator 2. . . every analog head should own one!

Great for what it does and definitely has stood the test of time in terms of build quality. It has a "sound" to it, like a radio treble push but it's not bad sounding to me. Could be good for many applications like vocals, drums, or master bus. I have an all analog setup and running my mix through a plug in limiter defeated my goals so this was great for avoiding that weird muffled digital sound. It's even better considering the price you can get it for and that no one really makes a nice solid state multi band stereo limiter for under $500.
