Good basic QWERTY phone with cheap services to fit the budget needs of many
5 of 6 found this helpful This model of CDMA cell phone is an exclusive to American Movil, a virtual cellular services provider with whom they are distributed under several company names. This company, owned and operated by the world's richest man residing in Mexico, operates several services that provide pay-as-you-go and reduced price services that resell airtime purchased in bulk from cellular service providers in the USA. The CDMA services for this model are provided by Verizon in most areas, and provide a much more complete service area than GSM band models that use other providers, such as T-Mobile. The largest advantage to this model is the ease of activating and/or re-activating services. It does not use a SIM card, and thus no SIM card is required replaced when the phone is transferred or sold to another person who must activate new services. Just buy the airtime card with code for the virtual service provider with whom the phone is locked, and you should be good to go.
It should be noted that these phones, and other models sold through the virtual companies of American Movil are service locked and can not be unlocked or flashed without a great deal of difficulty. Such costs and efforts would likely exceed the phone's value. They would also render it non-serviceable on the network for which it was originally firmware flashed. I would suggest no such unlocking attempts are made or considered.
