A perfect 10
Yes its more expensive than most mandrels but it is a versatile piece of kit. Not only does it apply pressue to the pen inserts and bushes rather than the mandrel bar (saving you accidentally over tightening your tail stock snd bending your mandrel snd producing some odd shaped pens) but it also saves the hassle of having to tightening the blanks in place with a nut.
It is very well engineered and the parts fit perfectly.

That bit extra
Considering the AH-1218(VS) lathes are pretty much a standard entry wooden lathe for Axminster you do expect some limitations, such as height over the bed and bed length.
This bed extension then is a great addition for those not wanting to purchase a large lathe for the times you need that longer length (candle sticks, etc).
Although there are still limits, so you won't be turning 20 inch bowls or barley twists for a 4 poster bed, you will be able to do pretty much everything else.
At less than £80 too it is a bit of a bargain. Compare it to the bed extensions for the Jet and higher end Axminster lathes and this is below half of the price whilst still be very well made. It is the same heavy constructions as the lathes own bed, giving a solid base for your tail stock to travel up.
All in all this extends the use of the lathe so much and saves me buying that 'large' lathe that I would normally have had to by now (although that time will probably come at some point).

Suprisingly Superb
Although I initially picked this film to rent with some reluctance, expecting the usual American over acting and over production and special effect, I was somewhat suprised by the direction that the director had taken this film. Yes, it is based on the little figures that changed from car, etc to robot but it was made with a superb air of humour. The robots are actually portrayed quite human like with GSOHs. This does not however take away from the plot and acting is very believable.
This is not a film to watch if you like serious films. It's fun, it's easy to watch and it's highly recommended.
