Great value "insurance" tool
1 of 1 found this helpful I got this more for insurance purposes as it will allow me to tackle more types of car repair without too much fear of ending up with an undriveable car outside of the house, eg exhaust manifold/ turbo stud breakage.
Whilst the components are great for the price, I doubt that the standard HSS drills provided will be upto much when drilling automotive fixings (they are generally 8.8 steel). For my purpose I have replaced them with HSSCo cobalt drills and really splashed out on the most frequently used 1/4 inch one by getting a left hand cobalt stub drill bit. As time goes by I will probably replace the smaller size drills too.
Nothing in the way of instructions/guide is provided and that is a big omission as there are various combinations used depending on the size and breakage point in the fixing. A search on the web will be required as there are plenty of almost identical sets from better known brands.

A must have boot accessory for temporary puncture repair.
Perfect for long trips, particularly at the weekend when repair services are scarce. But, its not quick. I had to spend ages getting a simple, straight mid-thread puncture prepped for the "needle" as it was nigh on impossible to get the needle through it. I had to "cheat" by squeezing the end with pliers so it was tapered and then open the gap a bit so the plug would still be able to remain on the inside of the tyre.

A DVD recorder with many bonus features
1 of 1 found this helpful I originally bought this to complement our new LCD TV with built-in PVR (hard disk recorder). The idea was that the DVD recorder would be used to archive off any stuff we wanted to keep when the telly was full (180GB) and that aspect works just fine. Its also a very good DVD player capable of excellent resolution for the vast majority of home users (say screens upto 40" with its 720p/1080i output). The on screen guides "Easy Guider" really do make this box of tricks easy to use for those with the worst case of technophobia. Its got plenty of connectivity options including the latest HDMI. The best bonus I found was that you can hook up your old VHS recorder via the SCART connection and it will automatically convert the analogue signal to digital, that is you can read old VHS tapes and record them to DVD. For me that means it can preserve irreplaceable family history VHS tapes.
The only downside I can see is that its built-in tuner is analogue which means you will soon need to record via a digital tuner such as a Freeview box or DTV if you want to record directly from broadcast television. Thats not a problem for me as I only record for archiving stuff from the PVR or VHS. In fact it may be the added bonus of why this box of tricks is available at such a great price.
I forgot to mention that I am so pleased with this that I have been trying to get hold of another one for our other television.
