1 of 1 found this helpful The sieve mesh is thoroughly connected to the rim by melting the mesh around the outside of the rim during production. This is very effective, as no food bits can get trapped between the mesh and the rim. This happened all the time when I used an expensive metal sieve: The food could not be washed out and it was unhygienic. The plastic sieve is also much lighter than the metal sieve I owned and the handle is moderately short, unlike the metal sieve, so it's easy to fit in the washing up bowl.
