Samsung UBD-M8500 4K Ultra HD Smart Blu-ray Player

Optical Digital Audio Output does not support 5.1 Surround!
I bought this 4K DVD player specifically for the option of hooking audio up through the Optical Digital Audio Output...a toslink cable. My JVC amp is older and does not have HDMI connections. I purchased thru Buydig and their 45 day return policy gave me the confidence to check things out. I even was able to look over the pdf file of the owner's manual. There was mention made perhaps the sound would not sync up using this connection. I was a bit shocked to discover that, and a call to Samsung confirmed this, this DVD player "supports 5.1 Digital Audio through HDMI alone." Only 2.0 comes thru the optical digital connection, as I found out. My return was quick and easy, and I found a Panasonic DP-UB420 for much less money that does give me 5.1! I'm sure this product would satisfy many. Those complaining about picture quality should make sure they have high speed HDMI cable.

"New" Van Halen Live with David Lee Roth
Happy to have discovered this live set. David is in fine form, actually going above and beyond at times. Song selection is a treat, as many lesser known songs are in the mix. They seem to have re-discovered their sense of fun, which a Van Halen concert should be.
