Finally a smart "smart phone"
1 of 2 found this helpful I've used several other "smart phone" devices (Palm Treo 650, HP iPaq 6925, Samsung Blackjack 1). Before getting the iPhone, my favorite of these was the Treo, mainly because I felt it had the best interface of the phones. It did everything I needed, but had a simple, straightforward interface.
The iPaq and Blackjack both use Windows Mobile, which absolutely drove me nuts. It was a number of little things: not automatically changing to digit input when putting in numeric values, incessant nags for meeting requests (rather than dinging once to remind), the practically impossible setup to set caps or number lock (and turning it off), not being able to save a number to contacts when a call is received, internet explorer randomly not rendering web pages and requiring a reboot of the device to access the internet... the list goes on and on.
The iPhone works how I expect. It hasn't been without its share of bumps in the road (one application is having some issues running), but the big screen is beautiful, the "soft" keyboards are intelligent from the standpoint that it always matches the type of input I want to enter, and (*gasp*) it even works well as a phone. It is easier to manage and to sync, the headset jack can use standard headphones, and it was easier to configure my exchange sync than the Windows Mobile devices I've used.

The headphones are really nice but must ...
The headphones are really nice but must have been used around smokers because they smelled awful. The pro series is nice because you can replace parts, so we purchased some new pads when we couldn’t wash out the smell.
