Brilliant Chinese Language Film ~ but without English Translation. :(
Excellent film ~ vibrant, brilliant acting ~ which I expected. But.....!
For ' hard to read subtitles', submit 'NO SUBTITLES' ! ! !
Just a cacophony of sound as two or three languages are all spoken... at once!!
What a racket!!
No menu, either ~ so couldn't access any kind of control / language set-up, etc.
And as I don't speak Mandarin/Cantonese/Taiwanese ~ ~ much of the clever, intellectual backchat totally passed me by...
What a shame!!

'Spartacus' by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. The Definitive Version.
This book is described as the 'definitive version' of the story of Spartacus. I would agree.
The language has an archaic quality to it; as if belonging to another time. You partake, through the written word, of another period in history. You identify with it. You live it. You feel for the characters.
The author has obviously done an incredible amount of research. Place names, battle sites, are all named specifically; there is massive attention to detail.
Likewise vocabulary ~ I came across words I'd never encountered before ~ that's rare!
But mostly, the author has a feeling for the spirit of Spartacus: his leadership of over seventy thousand slaves; and their battle for freedom. An empathy that's inspiring and descriptive.
So sad.

Iron to create machines. Steam to create power. Money the result. Incredibly detailed and thorough. Fascinating!!.
A highly detailed, fast paced, fast moving book ~ describing how the industrial revolution took place in our country and made us into world leaders in industry.
The prime movers who provoked a surge in creativity ~ and the effects on workers and working/living conditions, for the next hundred years.
It's truly excellent; thorough; comprehensive. Compelling reading.
