A good brain-relaxer for a free afternoon
Rock Hudson is chocolate-box handsome and wooden, Borgnine is intriguing and full of ham but great fun, Jim Brown is sadly rather a token, all the wit and intelligence comes from McGoohan role and it would be an improvement if that character had more to say and do. The whole thing is a thud and blunder with technology providing interesting activity, and the situation - Russian v. American standoff - is now a reminder of what could well have been happening in more covert circumstances in the year when it was made. Fear for the fate of the submariners is well-conveyed.
